Historian, author to speak at WWII event

The Bronze Star and Defense Meritorious Medal winner will discuss his father, Sam’s, service in the liberation of western Europe during World War II.
“My dad was the youngest and one of the most successful tank battalion commanders in WWII and I wrote about his unit in my book,” Hogan said.
The award-winning book, “Task Force Hogan,” has been praised for documenting U.S. military operations in the European theatre that have not been shared before, shining the spotlight on a unit of unsung heroes.

Reviewer, author and World War II historian Rick Steinke praised Hogan and his book, saying, “His understanding of military combined arms tactics, operations, and strategy, from the basic tank crew to major European Theater operations, is breathtaking. In chronicling his father Sam’s dynamic leadership of Task Force Hogan, … Will Hogan brilliantly intertwines the interpersonal relationships, bravery, fear, hardships, love, triumphs, sacrifices, and sheer selflessness of these Greatest Generation soldiers who risked it all to liberate Europe from its Nazi stranglehold.”
William Hogan is a fourth generation U.S. Army veteran, author and consultant on intelligence, national security and international relations matters. During his military career he served in armored, airborne and special operations units across the globe including Operations Joint Forge in Bosnia, United Shield in Honduras and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He twice served as military attaché overseas including as assistant military attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
He will speak at 1 p.m. Saturday in the onsite WWII Museum in the Crestview Senior Activity Center, 205 Stillwell Blvd., at Old Spanish Trail Park, then be available for audience questions and to autograph copies of “Task Force Hogan.” There is no admission charge for “Race to the Rhein” or Hogan’s address.
