Officials to break ground on Walmart Neighborhood Market

Plans call for the construction of a 45,603-square-foot store, as well as 18,800 square feet of general retail space and a fueling station on 14 acres northeast of the Richburg Lane-Industrial Drive intersection. In addition, two outparcels, each a little over 1 acre in size, are available for development north of the planned fueling station.

The 14-acre site, which was cleared of trees several weeks ago, stands north of El Paso Tacos & Tequila and south of Eglin Federal Credit Union. A traffic signal will be installed at the Richburg Lane-State Road 85 intersection.
Walmart officials anticipate the market opening by the end of this year, Crestview City Manager Jessica Leavins said recently.
The addition of the market will mean less driving by north side city residents to the Walmart Supercenter near Interstate 10, Mayor J.B. Whitten said Tuesday in a news release.

“This market will not only serve our north side residents but also those from nearby towns like Baker and Laurel Hill,” Whitten added.
Sandra Wilson, president and CEO of the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce, also noted that the new market will lead to fewer trips by north side residents to the Supercenter. The market and the Supercenter stand 4.1 miles apart.

“I think it’s a great addition,” Wilson said today about the market. “I’m sure this will help the people on the north side of town tremendously.”
The new store “will provide convenient access to fresh essentials and support local families with a modern and elevated shopping experience close to home,” Derald Cupp, market manager for Walmart Neighborhood Markets, said in a prepared statement. “Florida is an essential part of the Walmart footprint, and we look forward to serving as a dedicated community partner in Crestview for years to come.”
At the groundbreaking ceremony, El Paso Tacos & Tequila will sponsor a taco bar, and drinks will be served.
