Local area churches are coming together on November 3rd for “Raise the Standard”, an event taking place outside the Okaloosa County Circuit Court. The event will begin at 6:30 PM.

Pastor Jesse Jernigan of Milligan Assembly of God Church as well as Pastor Paul Mixon of Central Baptist Church, are spearheading the event.

Mixon is also Okaloosa County commissioner.

The courthouse has special relevance to the night as Crestview is the county seat for Okaloosa County.  It is also a place of political and governmental power.

“We wanted to go there to let our light shine in that particular arena,” said Jernigan.  “This is not about us being political.  We step there as Kingdom minded people and want to raise the standard of the Kingdom of God.”

Jernigan had a message for those who are interested in going to the event.

“I want them to come and feel the unity of the body of Christ,” said Jernigan.  “We are there to lift up Jesus and see his face.”

The event will touch on area political elections in the area including local elections, amendments, county and city races as well as the national presidential election.

Jernigan reiterated that the group is not praying for a particular candidate in any of the races that will take place on November 5th.  Instead, He implored voters to look at policy over personality.

He also explained about the need for all citizens to cast their vote on election day.

“I believe that it is a civic duty for everyone to go out and cast their vote,” Jernigan said.  “There are people that will not vote and then go complain.  You will not have a right to complain if you do not vote.”

This is second consecutive election cycle that Milligan Assembly Church of God will pray for the election.

Several other churches in Okaloosa County are expected to participate in the event, with over 100 people expected in attendance.

Jernigan, Mixon and other pastors from the county are expected to speak at the event.

Each pastor will have a designated prayer point that they will speak on before attendees will split into small groups on the lawn of courthouse to pray together.
