Hometown History: Snow! Tornado!

For a city that’s officially only 108 years old (there were settlements all around the Crestview area long before the official chartering of the city), Crestview sure has a lot of fascinating history. Here’s what happened in our past, starting with the new year. Watch for a new history lesson each week.
The Anderson Street home of Leon and Bertie Ann Curenton is roofless after the Jan. 5, 1962, tornado whirled through Crestview. Their 10-day-old son, Leon Jr., had just been laid down for a nap in the back bedroom (lefthand window) when the tornado struck. He slept through the ordeal.
