Gators sweep district weightlifting

In what has become as much a signal of the arrival of spring as warm days and blooming azaleas the Baker boys weightlifting team claimed a sixth-consecutive District 1-1A championship on Wednesday. Led by double wins from Tyson McBride (154), Lane Cato (183), Joseph Blackshear (199) and Leroy Pierce (238) the Gators claimed both the Olympic and Traditional titles at the meet.

Zessin enjoying role as baseball coach at Florala

Tyler Zessin, a 2012 Laurel Hill School graduate, has traded the blue and gold of his alma mater for the green and white of Florala (Ala.) High School.

A former standout on the Laurel Hill basketball and baseball teams, Zessin played basketball for his father, Kent Zessin, and baseball for Ronnie Smith.

I hadn’t started kindergarten when I attended my first live softball game. It was a church league game of slow pitch, and my dad was playing.
I remember being amazed that Dad, being so old in his late 20s, could still run. What I don’t remember is having free run of the area around the field’s fence.

Bulldogs close out spring break with win

The age-old question of whether a baseball team starting spring break or ending spring break might have been answered on Friday night when Crestview traveled to Pensacola to take on Pine Forest. Okaloosa County schools were scheduled to return to class on Monday, March 25 while Escambia County students were celebrating the start of the week away from the classroom Friday evening. In this case it was the team returning to school that had the upper hand. Or it might just be that the Bulldogs are better than Eagles in taking the 9-2 win.
