Baker has good showing at regional meet

The Baker School gym was filled with some of the strongest young men in the state of Florida on Saturday. A total of 266 lifters from 27 schools were on hand to take part in the Region 1-1A championship. Florida High and Maclay had the furthest trips coming 160 miles from Tallahassee. Port St. Joe made the 140-mile trip to Okaloosa County.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Niceville

Whenever a team from Crestview High School is trying to climb the mountain of success it seems as if Niceville is almost always standing in the way. This is especially true in softball where coach Danny Hensley has made the Lady Eagles the model of consistency for more than 20 years. The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Niceville to take on the Lady Eagles in the stadium baring Hensley’s name on Thursday in hopes of getting the elusive win. But in what has become a continuing story it was the Lady Eagles coming out on top 10-3.

Baker wins battle of the Lady Gators

When the Baker softball team hosted Escambia on Tuesday one thing was certain, the Lady Gators would win. The question was, which Lady Gators would win. In a battle of Lady Gators that was moved up an hour to deal with the stormy weather in the area, it was good news for the home team. Baker avenged its loss to Escambia earlier in the season with an 11-1 win. The game was called in the sixth inning on the run rule.

Gators take down Pirates

April 2, 2024
There was no April’s Fool joke on the Baker baseball team Monday as the Gators played host to Ponce De Leon. Four Gator pitchers, Joel Morse, Maddox Smith, Wyatt Straight and Judah Morse, combined to hold the Pirates to six hits and didn’t all an earned run.

I love this time of year as March Madness winds down and basketball starts to take a backseat to baseball. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy basketball. I especially enjoy the relationships I’ve had with coaches, players and families through the years.

Crestview’s Lily Kroft wins trade scholarship

For the second year in a row a Crestview High School student in the Building Trades program has won the Robert and Amy Harper Scholarship awarded by the Home Builders Institute.
