CW3 (R) Michael Tyrone Bell departed this life on March 8, 2022 in Woodbridge, VA. He was born as the sixth child of thirteen children (consisting of seven boys and six girls), to the Rev. Austin David and Mary B. Bell, Jr. in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, on August 19, 1958. Michael along with the rest of the family moved to Crestview, Florida in 1960 where he spent the rest of his formative years through high school.
Michael was active in sports and starred as a guard for his Crestview High Bulldog basketball team. He graduated from Crestview High School in 1976. Michael joined the military as an enlisted soldier in the Army in 1978 and by 1982 had attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was selected to attend the prestigious Army Warrant Officer School and upon graduation in 1985 was appointed to the rank of Warrant Officer One in the Quartermaster Corps as a Property Book Accounting Technician. Michael retired from the military in 1998 having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Three (CW3). Throughout his 20 years of military service Michael served in a variety of key military assignments in various locales to include Germany, Texas, and Virginia. In his last assignment prior to retirement, Michael served as Property Book Officer for Director of Logistics, Fort Myer, Virginia, in support of the “Old Guard” (3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment—the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving since 1784). Michael’s military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal (4th award); Army Achievement Medal (3rd award); Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd award); National Defense Service Medal; Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; and Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award). After retiring from the military in 1998, Michael worked in various civilian positions in Georgia and Virginia to include stints as a Real Estate Agent, Defense Contractor and DoD Civilian Employee. On July 31, 2021 Michael retired from the civilian workforce and entered into the next phase of his life’s journey. Michael was preceded in death by Rev. Austin D. Bell, Jr. (father), Mary B. Bell (mother) and sisters Patricia and Angela. He is survived by a son William Bell, a daughter Michelle (Mark) Bell and their mother Tawanda Bell; six brothers: COL (R) Austin (Nadene) Bell III, Rev. Donald (Deborah) Bell, Rev. Ronald (Ranine-deceased) Bell, Gregory Bell, Phillip (Jacqueline) Bell, and Christopher Bell; four sisters: Audrey Bell, Andrea (Bishop Leon II) Key, Adrienne (William) Sydnor, and Aletha Bell; and a vast number of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Funeral services for Michael will be held Saturday March 19, 2022, 11:00 A.M., at Praise, Power and Compassion Ministries, 2188 James Lee Blvd (Highway 90) Crestview, FL. Visitation will be held Friday March 18, 2022, 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., McKinnie Funeral Home 398 MLK Jr., Ave Crestview, FL. Michael will be interred in Springhill Cemetery with military honors following the funeral service.
